2003 ICC IFGC International Fuel and Gas Code

The  2003 International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC)  establishes regulations for the installation and operation of fuel gas systems, including piping and appliances, aiming to enhance safety and compliance in all types of buildings, except those specifically exempt. It covers both new installations and modifications to existing systems, ensuring they meet current safety standards.

This code sets forth detailed requirements for system design, installation, and maintenance. It mandates regular inspections and specifies conditions under which existing systems can be altered or repaired without requiring a full overhaul, provided they remain safe and compliant.

Permits are essential for most types of gas work, with the code delineating the procedures for obtaining these permits. Specific provisions are also included for emergency repairs and smaller modifications, which might not require a full permit process.

The IFGC also provides exceptions and specific guidance for different types of buildings and facilities, such as residential homes, temporary installations, and industrial sites like refineries and chemical plants. This tailored approach helps ensure that the unique needs and risks of different environments are adequately addressed.
